About Me
I am an assistant professor of library administration at the University
of Illinois College of Law. Aside from teaching legal research I work
with the fantastic rare book collection at the Jenner Law Library. I also
write the legal research column for Student Lawyer magazine.

I began researching this book in 2004 when I chanced across an article
written by Jean Ashton, then director of Columbia's Rare Book and
Manuscript Library. I was so fascinated by the crime and its
repercussions that I immediately phoned her. The more I learned
about the circumstances surrounding the crime and punishment, the
more I realized I needed to write a book about it.

This is me in my natural state (except for the leaning, which I hardly
ever do)
